What are QS Rankings?

The QS Rankings are the prestigious international rankings that assess the popularity of academic institutions worldwide on the basis of their performances. In this era of high competition in each and every sector, QS Rankings has been successfully producing the World University Rankings for the past 20 years, which has been helping students worldwide decide whether to join a university that fits their study goals and career aspirations.

Universities and other academic institutions are ranked by QS Rankings in accordance to their many attributes. Academic Institutions are evaluated on the basis of their employability—that is, through the number of campus placements that happen, as well as their research output, publications, and quality of instruction. Following meticulous computation and analysis, the universities’ QS rankings are determined.

Benefits of QS Rankings

The QS World University Rankings’ ability to encourage healthy competition and creative thinking among universities is one of its most significant features. Academic institutions are typically incentivized to innovate in their research methods and curricula when they are pitted against one another. This drives them to strive for higher rankings and better performance. These rankings encourage academic institutions to put in more effort, demonstrate their superiority over competitors, and draw in the best faculty and students.

In addition, the frequent QS surveys help in getting international recognition, mark the university’s strength in the global education marketplace, and attract employers offering campus placement to students. Since QS Rankings are very straightforward and transparent, it makes the data easily accessible and easy to understand.

Indicators to assess the top universities worldwide by the QS Ranking

  • Academic Reputation: This is the main indicator for building university rankings, as it evaluates the quality of research and teaching conducted through a global survey.
  • Employer Demand: This is also another significant factor in university ranking because it overlooks the employability factor for students through campus placements at the university.
  • Faculty & Student Ratio: According to QS Rankings, the more faculty available at the academic institution, the better the experience for students, as it will include factors such as quality of supervision, teaching support, and curriculum development, among others.
  • Research & Citations: Citations per faculty indicate the significant research work pursued by the university. To measure this, QS counts the number of paper publications by the university and the number of times a faculty member is cited in other academic works.
  • International Student Ratio: The ratio of international students pursuing their studies at the campus also indicates the university’s mass appeal in the market. The presence of large international students leads to cultural exchanges and networking among students while enriching their experience and creating better future possibilities.
